Getting Ready For A Photo Shoot
A photo shoot is an important activity for a model and the photographer. What happens during a shoot will reflect in the photos taken. Here are a few points to note when preparing for a photo shoot.
Practice
It is important to know how your body feels when it is posed in an attractive manner. Practice facial expressions in front of the mirror. Learn how your face feels with a perfect smile- no gums, eyes open- not squinting.Prcatice your postures while naked. With clothes on you have pockets, colours etc to hang on to. Without clothes you have to learn how to place your hands and make them look attractive. Look closely at how the models in magazines hold their hands, how they sit and the attitude they portray in their photographs.
Select Good Outfits
Carefully select your outfits. I recommend clothes that flatter your body structure. Add specific shoes and accessories. Do not wear jewelry unless requested by the photographer or client. Portfolio images are about you so don’t water them down with jewelry. Bring props that match your outfits.
Props make a photo more believable and equally give you something to do
with your hands.
Body Care
Wax or shave your legs and armpits 3 days prior to a shoot. If you are modeling swimwear or lingerie, be sure you hit the bikini line. If your hair is dry, opt for deep conditioning treatment. Get your nails done.Generally, short and neutral (nude polish or French manicure is the desired look.Dont forget your toes.
Sleep at least eight hours a night for 3 days prior to the shoot.
Be Organized
Get your items ready and packed up. Your clothes should be pressed and well arranged when you arrive at the shoot. Also get a good and fresh breath from mint or a bubblegum. You should smell as fresh as you look.
Your hair must be dry before you arrive at the shoot.
Avoid dry lips by putting Vaseline on your lips before bed and the morning of the shoot.
Fingernails and toenails should be one length, well manicured.
Drink lots of water and carry it with you.
Finally, be lively and full of enthusiasm. Remember that your enthusiasm could make the photographer create for you the photos you need to take your modeling career to the next level.
